Pauline Murray And The Storm “Holocaust” from 1984. Nice synth cover of a Big Star song!
Great tune!
My mum told me this was the first single she ever bought.
When Paul Collins played in Melbourne, I asked him if he would play this for my mum who was in the audience. He did and ended up telling my mum his story about this song and why he chose to cover it on his King Of Power Pop album. My mum was very happy. She loved it and had a great time. She normally wouldn’t go to many shows with me but she was over from Adelaide visiting me and I already had a ticket to his show so she decided to come along anyway. Seeing my mum walk up to Paul after the show and thank him personally for singing the song for her made me so happy. My mum is awesome and grew up with an amazing record collection (which is where I got the beginnings of my rock n roll knowledge, I guess). This was a great day and forever a good memory.
Chris Bell - You and Your Sister (1978) - The only solo album from Big Star’s Chris Bell “I Am the Cosmos” is a musical snapshot of one of the most underrated songwriters around. The photo work (done by Chris’ brother David) is some of my favorite as well. Spanning paranoid, bummer glam to glimmering folk tracks (such as the one posted above) “I Am the Cosmos” is essential listening for fans of Big Star or strange but lovely tunes in general.

Kramer could hear Leary and Haynes screaming at each other inside, and when he finally worked up the courage to open the door, he found the two of them smashing guitars, bottle and chairs in what Kramer calls “the most potent example of bad behavior I have ever seen. To this day, more than fifteen years later, I have no more vivid memory of the effect a life in music can have on a human being.”
Moments later a man entered the dressing room and asked if he could borrow a guitar. “BORROW A GUITAR??!!! WELL, WHO THE FUCK ARE YOU???!!! Haynes screamed, eyes flashing in delirious anticipation of forthcoming violence. But the man was totally unfazed.
“I’m Alex Chilton,” the man answered calmly.
Haynes was flabbergasted. After a long pause, he methodically opened the remaining guitar cases one by one and gestured at them as if to say, “Take anything you want.”
